Hi, I’m Nahal Suzanne Jamir, and this is my author site. My first story collection In the Middle of Many Mountains (Press 53) is available now.

New to my work? Start with “Pilgrim,” a Best American Short Stories 2022 Distinguished Story, or visit Writing for the full bibliography and About to learn more about me.

I also just finished guest editing fiction for Issue 283 of Prime Number Magazine, and I hope you’ll check out the wonderful writing there!

“I had learned that you should always shout louder than your aggressor.”
― Marjane Satrapi, Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood

A note on the web domain “stay Persian”: I use this phrase to remember I’m bicultural and a second-generation immigrant. I want to explore and honor my Persian heritage even though it’s hard because I live in the United States. I use the term “Persian” to refer to culture (art, food, etc.) and not to align with any nation-state or nationalism.
